Affleck, 40, will be one of six artists, writers, scientists and educators to receive the honorary recognition at the university's May 26 graduation ceremonies.

Affleck produced the 2012 Best Picture Oscar winner, "Argo," and won an Oscar with Matt Damon in 1997 for their screenplay for "Good Will Hunting."

His acting credits include "Armageddon," "Pearl Harbor," "Shakespeare in Love" and "The Town" -- which he also directed and co-wrote with Peter Craig and Aaron Stockard.

He will receive an honorary doctor of fine arts degree, Brown said.

Author and Massachusetts Institute of Technology Professor Junot Diaz, retired Stanford University bacteriologist Stanley Falkow, Tougaloo College President Beverly Wade Hogan, physician and Robert Wood Johnson Foundation President Risa Lavizzo-Mourey and Miami Dade College President Eduardo J. Padron, will also receive honorary degrees, Brown said.
