The mission of 45 bell ringers for Volunteers of America in Everett, Wash., was thwarted when someone made off with their 12-passenger van.
"We're hoping the Grinch will come out of the woods and give us back Christmas for everybody," Howie Odden, director of development and communications for the non-profit organization, told the Seattle Times.
The bell ringers are making use of ad hoc car-pooling in the meantime. Volunteers of America has an annual budget of $18 million and serves nine counties in the state.
