Bees attack in Fort Lauderdale, Fla.

UPI News Service, 12/27/2006

A swarm of bees in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., attacked two teens and a dog -- and then went after firefighters responding to an emergency call.

The bees attacked 18-year-old Nicole Sinder and her boyfriend, Charles Graham, while they were trying to bathe Sinder's dog, Sasha, the Miami Herald reported.

The dog had accidentally gotten some tiki torch fuel spilled on itself, so the couple had tethered her and started hosing her down when dozens of bees swarmed around their heads, Sinder said.

Sinder ran in the house and jumped in the shower to get rid of the bees in her hair and on her clothes and then remembered that she had to free Sasha.

"I was really scared, but I heard my dog, and I saw her through the window, and I had to let her loose," Sinder said.

Sinder and Graham rescued Sasha and called 911.

It took the firefighters getting stung and putting on protective suits to kill the bees, but they rid the yard of them -- and then found a large honeycomb in an old stump.
