Matt Patterson said he was working with a friend in Whistler when they noticed a black bear wandering near the parked vehicle.

Patterson started filming video as the animal approached the white van.

"He just walks up to the van and stands up and opens the door and I was just like...I still don't believe it now. He just made it look so easy you know? 'Oh! It's been plenty of times,'" Patterson told Global News.

The video shows the bear climb into the van while the men look on in amazement.

"Mate he's opened the door of your van! I swear to god. Mate, he's in your [expletive] van," Patterson says.

He told CTV News the bear spent some time inside the vehicle, but didn't cause any major damage.

"The bear all together was in the van for a good 12 minutes. He's just sitting there in the driver's seat. It was just surreal," Patterson said.

He said the bear climbed in and out of the van several times, leaving for the last time with a bottle of Fiji water in its mouth.
