Kathryn Kelly's suit claims Carter's sister, Bobby Jean, stabbed and beat her several times in April, E! Online reported Thursday.
The suit filed in Los Angeles Superior Court says Carter, 25, and his father, Robert, failed to properly supervise Bobby Jean, who was working for her father and as her brother's assistant when the alleged attacks occurred.
The suit alleges Bobby Jean has a history of alcohol and substance abuse as well as three prior convictions for assault and battery and felony assault with a deadly weapon. Kelly is seeking unspecified damages from the Carters.
Spokesmen for Nick Carter released statements saying Kelly named him only get publicity and her charges against him are "totally without merit."
A rep for the Backstreet Boy added he would probably file his own lawsuit against Kelly for trying to "capitalize on his name."
