The suit filed by the maker of In-Sink-Erator says the new NBC series shows one of the characters using its garbage disposal to mangle her hand, violating the company's trademark and offering a disparaging view of its product, said Zap2it.com.

In the "Heroes" pilot, a character who developed regenerating powers sticks her hand into the disposal to see if she can recover from the damage it inflicts.

The company wants the network to stop airing the pilot on NBC Universal's cable networks, USA and the Sci Fi channel, and stop offering the debut episode online at NBC's Web site.

Zap2it.com said that in addition, Emerson has asked the court that NBC be blocked from using its products in future network productions.
