American Juniors' "One Step Closer" continues Canadian soar and U.S. plummet

Amazingly, the mixed reception given to the American Juniors' single "One Step Closer" in North America continues for the week ending Sept. 21, according to Nielsen SoundScan.
In the U.S., the single has fallen to #25 on the U.S. Singles Sales chart, a drop of another ten slots from last week. Meanwhile, the "soundtrack" CD to Fox's American Juniors show, entitled Kids in America, has only managed to reach #166 on the U.S. Album Sales chart. Judging by that response, American Idol and American Juniors impressario Simon Fuller might consider disbanding the group. Except...
In Canada, "One Step Closer" moved ahead of Clay Aiken's "Bridge Over Troubled Water"/"This Is the Night" to claim third spot on the Canadian Singles Sales chart. And, while Kids in America isn't a hit north of the border either, at least it reached a respectable #36 on the Canadian Album Sales chart ... merely 130 places above its U.S. ranking.
We have no idea why the American Juniors' reception is so different between these two very similar countries. However, the Canadian success indicates that there is at least a possibility of U.S. success in the future. On behalf of Danielle White, Taylor and Tori Thompson, Chauncey Matthews and Lucy Hale, we'll keep our eyes open....
