'American Idol' host Ryan Seacrest talks about the upcoming season

Who better to dish dirt on the upcoming season of American Idol than its longtime host Ryan Seacrest? Before the Fox hit has its season premiere on Tuesday, January 16 at 8PM ET/PT, Seacrest spoke with People magazine about all things Idol.

First on the list of topics, the often outspoken judge America loves to hate, Simon Cowell.

"I think all the work he's done in the past year has taken its toll.  We may need to use Days of Our Lives soft lighting for him," Seacrest joked to People.  "And he's more impatient than ever.  It'll make it tougher for the contestants."

Forget about the contestants, what about the ramifications it has had on his fellow judges sitting to his right during auditions, Paula Abdul and Randy Jackson?

"It was your typical situation of Paula and Simon not speaking over a couple of days [over what Cowell said to a contestant]," Seacrest told People.  "By the next city, everything is fine.  Randy is the peacekeeper.  He's the Swiss judge."

Seacrest added that viewers should know what to expect week in and week out from the judges.

"You need a little yin and yang and Paula," Seacrest joked to People.

Seacrest also talked a bit about the contestants that have been auditioning across the country for the sixth installment of Idol.

"There are some really beautiful, talented females," Seacrest told People.  "They're hot!  But the worse just keep getting more clueless."

As for his own style in the upcoming season, Seacrest said he likes what his buddy Justin Timberlake is doing, combining a V-neck sweater and tie.

"A suit with a nice V-neck looks amazing," Seacrest told People.
