"Was struck w/ acute appendicitis...took out that appendix last night. Recovering today & the next week or so," wrote the American Idol sixth-season winner in a Thursday post to her Twitter account.

"Feeling a little better but very sore. Thank you so much for your thoughts & prayers. It means so much & it's so powerful."

Sparks subsequently posted a photo of herself holding two teddy bears while in the hospital.

"Smiling, resting & takin it easy!" she wrote.

Due to her hospitalization, Sparks was forced to cancel a trip to Australia where she was scheduled to sing a duet with Australian Idol winner Guy Sebastian.

Sparks was previously forced to cancel part of an early 2008 tour after suffering an "acute vocal chord hemorrhage."
