'America's Got Talent' determines YouTube fifth-season semifinalists

America's Got Talent determined four more fifth-season semifinalist acts during Wednesday night's live broadcast of the NBC reality competition series.

Maestro Alexander Bui, a 16-year-old pianist from Egg Harbor Township, NJ, Jackie Evancho, a 10-year-old opera singer from Pittsburgh, PA, and Dan Sperry, a 25-year-old magician from Las Vegas, NV were revealed to have finished as the Top 3 vote-getters after Tuesday night's performance show which featured 12 acts that were selected via America's Got Talent's separate YouTube auditions process.

America's Got Talent host Nick Cannon also revealed that stand-up comedian Austin Anderson, hip-hop dancer Booker Forte, pizza juggler Pizza Patt, jump-rope jumper Dylan Plummer, a cappella group PLUtonic, accordion-playing dog Pup, and dancer Ryan Rodriguez had received the seven lowest home viewer vote totals from the performance show and would not be advancing.

The announcements then left America's Got Talent judges Piers Morgan, Sharon Osbourne and Howie Mandel with the task of deciding which of the two acts that had received the fourth and fifth highest vote totals -- Cam Hodges, a 20-year-old singer from Sammamish, WA, or Kristina Young, a 22-year-old singer from Spearfish, SD -- should become the fourth YouTube act to advance to the semifinals.

"As a performer, I have to say I'm proud of you.  The leap from YouTube and in your rooms on a webcam to this stage is unbelievable.  That pressure, as a performer, showed in both of you.  You both had a few mistakes and it probably wasn't your best performance, and I believe that you both can offer us a lot more," Mandel said.

"So I have to go with my gut -- because I've only heard you once and seen you on YouTube -- and my gut tells me the bigger star, and the one that has the most potential, is Cam."

Osbourne then cast her vote for Young.

"You guys are so new, you're like newborn babies to this.  I don't think you even know what your best performance is yet, because you haven't had it.  But Cam, [I] loved your interpretation of the song, you are a great guitar player as well as a singer.  Kristina, I think you're a very sexy, young girl. You've got a very strong voice.  I think that you could be very versatile -- I think that you could go in any direction right now, you're very pliable as an artist," she said.

"So in that way, I'm going to have to chose Kristina."

With the judges' voting tied, it was then up to Morgan to cast the deciding vote.

"In your cases, we don't know much about you, even now.  I've seen you perform live once -- the [other non-YouTube semifinalists] we've seen a few times.  So really what I have to do now, is take a bet on one of you as to which I think can rise to a second live performance," he said.

"[Cam], you made mistakes yesterday, you've admitted that.  And [Kristina], you were a bit shouty, I thought, when I watched it back.  I'm going to go with the act that I think, I suspect, can deliver better than last night.  And that is Kristina."

Next week, America's Got Talent's fifth-season semifinals will continue with a special "wild card" round in which 12 additional acts will perform.

The round will feature seven Top 48 quarterfinalist acts which failed to advance out of their group during the season's earlier quarterfinal rounds -- child ballroom dancers Anna and Patryk, 11-year-old rapper and dancer CJ Dippa, comedian Doogie Horner, harmonica player Harmonica Pierre, tap dance group The Hot Shot Tap Dancers, all-girl hip-hop crew RNG, and circus acrobat Rudi Macaggi.

In addition, it will also include five acts who originally missed the season's quarterfinals cut -- indoor kite flyer Connor Doran, magician Michael Grasso, dance group Kruti Dance Academy, acrobats Michael Lipari & Ashleigh Dejon, and sideshow performers Swing Shift Side Show.
