Marj Pals said while workers at the Sunset Branch Library have found lottery tickets and even cash inside returned books, the most popular and most unpleasant bookmark remains a piece of the bathroom mainstay, The Arizona Republic reported Thursday.
Chandler Librarian Sue Hoffman said in addition to such unwanted markers, many customers tend to forget to remove things ranging from bills to personal memorabilia.
"We see all kinds of things in the book drop boxes, too," Hoffman told the Republic. "Sometimes people tape money for fines on the books. We find cell phones and utility bill payments. If they have stamps on them, we drop them in the mail, and sometimes we have even put stamps on them."
Pals told the newspaper one of the most shocking discoveries inside a book was a $10,000 check she promptly returned to the individual who wrote it out.
