"I am thrilled to announce that the super talented Adam Lambert is joining the cast of Glee this fall," Glee executive producer Ryan Murphy tweeted Wednesday.

Details of the role American Idol's eighth-season runner-up will be playing on the Fox show have yet to be released. Representatives for Fox and Glee's 20th Century Fox Television production company both declined comment on whether the singer's appearance will be regular, recurring or a guest spot, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Lambert expressed to The Reporter last year how he believes Glee is "so cute" and "really paints a picture of what it's like to be an arts kid in high school... Glee is really irresistible -- it's charming."

Lambert reportedly also added he'd love to play himself on the series.

Lambert won't be the first Idol alum to join the show, as eleventh-season runner-up Jessica Sanchez had a multi-episode role last season in which she played a diva singer at a rival glee club.

Glee's fifth season will premiere on Thursday, September 19 at 9PM ET/PT on Fox.
