Leaders of the two major actors union said Thursday they will recommend both pro and con arguments be included in a member vote on a new contract.

Screen Actors Guild President Melissa Gilbert and American Federation of Television and Radio Artists President John Connolly said they will recommend to the SAG-AFTRA Joint National Board that arguments both for and against the new contract with producers be presented to members as they vote on ratification.
The unions agreed to a deal with producers last week that provides pay raises and higher contributions to health and pension funds -- but does not alter the decades-old formula for distributing revenue from home video sales and rentals. Union leaders had said that was one of their highest priorities.
"We believe this deal stands on its merits," said Gilbert and Connolly in a joint statement, "and we also believe that the membership deserves and has a right to expect an honest, open assessment from its unions."
