The Torrington (Conn.) Register Citizen said Saturday that Torn, 78, set off an alarm at a Litchfield Bancorp building when he allegedly forced entry into the site through a back window Friday night.

Police said in a release that officers responding to the alarm allegedly found Torn intoxicated and carrying a loaded revolver.

The actor, known for roles in films like "Cross Creek" and "Payday," was charged with carrying a pistol without a permit, carrying a firearm while intoxicated, first-degree burglary, first-degree criminal trespass and third-degree criminal mischief.

TMZ.com said Mark E. Macomber, president of Litchfield Bancorp in Connecticut, suspects the actor did not intend to steal anything inside the building or hurt anyone.

Macomber said police suspect Torn thought he was in his own home at the time of the alleged break-in, the report said.
