Linus Roache, who co-starred in the short-lived "Kidnapped" last season, will play the new lead prosecutor, moving into Jack McCoy's old office, Zap2It.com reported Tuesday. McCoy, played by Sam Waterson, has moved into the role of district attorney for Manhattan, replacing Arthur Branch, who was portrayed by possible Republican presidential candidate Fred Thompson, who left the show.

"I've known Linus' work for several years," said Dick Wolf, "Law & Order" executive producer. "He is an actor who totally gets inside his roles. I think he and Sam are going to raise the bar and add intellect and passion in the back half of the show."

Fellow "Kidnapped" cast member Jeremy Sisto is headed for the detective squad on "Law & Order," joining the cast as the new partner for homicide detective Ed Green, played by Jesse L. Martin.
