ABC has announced it's tapped Nick Lachey to helm High School Musical: Summer Session, a new reality competition series based on Disney Channel's successful High School Musical franchise that will premiere Sunday, July 20 at 8PM ET/PT.

The 34-year-old former 98 Degrees member is no stranger to working in the realm of reality television.

Lachey and his then wife Jessica Simpson starred in MTV's Newlyweds: Nick & Jessica, which premiered following their October 2002 wedding.  The show aired four seasons before the couple separated in November 2005 amidst various rumors they had already long-since lost interest in each other.  Simpson filed for divorce that December and Lachey is currently dating Vanessa Minnillo.

Last December, Lachey led a choir of 17 Cincinnatians for NBC's Clash of the Choirs and subsequently won the reality competition series, claiming the title of "America's Best Choir."

In addition, he is also currently developing a Fame-like reality series for MTV that will focus on students attending Cincinnati's School for Creative and Performing Arts, blending their performances with narrative about the school Lachey attended as a youth.

While High School Musical: Summer Session will represent Lachey's first hosting gig, his brother Drew -- Dancing with the Stars' second-season celebrity champion -- could provide him a few pointers, as he helmed ABC's Dance War: Bruno vs. Carrie Ann reality series earlier this year.  Drew also filled in for Dancing with the Stars host Samantha Harris last fall following the birth of her first child.

Casting for High School Musical: Summer Session is currently underway, and ABC will air the series twice-a-week on Sundays and Mondays at 8PM ET/PT for three weeks.  The show will then continue its broadcast run in the Mondays at 8PM ET/PT time period for the remainder of the summer.
