ABC's "Lost" is spawning a book written by a character who died in the show's pilot and was never even seen on screen.

The book will come out during a subplot involving a character named Gary Troup who didn't survive the show's deadly plane crash, Daily Variety reported. Survivors on the island find his manuscript -- which is what is being published by ABC sister company Hyperion Books.

Hyperion has reportedly hired a "well-known" mystery novelist to pen the book, Variety said. The book will be marketed as written by Troup, who delivered his manuscript just days before his plane crashed.
