Sorkin won an Oscar for his screenplay for "The Social Network" about Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg. He also was co-creator of the celebrated White House television drama "The West Wing."
"Steve Jobs' story is unique: he was one of the most revolutionary and influential men not just of our time but of all time," said Sony Pictures co-head Amy Pascal in a statement issued to EW.com. "There is no writer working in Hollywood today who is more capable of capturing such an extraordinary life for the screen than Aaron Sorkin; in his hands, we're confident that the film will be everything that Jobs himself was: captivating, entertaining, and polarizing."
No director or star for "Steve Jobs" has yet been announced. Ashton Kutcher has signed on to play him in a separate bio-picture, "Jobs."
Jobs, the computer genius who helped revolutionize the communication and entertainment industries, died of cancer last October. He was 56.
