A luxury car pop singer Aaron Carter had been driving in Florida exploded seconds after he and a friend jumped out of the vehicle.

Carter, 17, was driving down the Florida Turnpike near Pompano Beach late Wednesday night when a mattress came off a truck in front of his 2004 Cadillac Escalade, got stuck under the SUV and caught fire, E! Online reported Friday.

Carter pulled the vehicle over and both he and his friend jumped out just as the sport utility vehicle exploded.

"Everything happened in such a whirlwind," Carter said. "It was like the mattress flew out of nowhere. You think you're invincible when you're behind the steering wheel of an SUV but you're not. I'm okay but you can imagine I'm still in shock."

He said he had minor "bumps and bruises" from the "near-death experience."

Police say the truck driver never stopped.
