Former NYPD detective Joe Mazzilli will lead the team, which uses a mix of investigative techniques, connections, street smarts and manhunt experience to locate runaways at the request of parents and other loved ones.

"Joe Mazzilli is a true New York character and a real-life superhero," said A&E programming executive Robert Sharenow.

"The extraordinary passion and commitment that he and his team display on a daily basis is incredibly inspiring and something we believe our viewers will truly connect with."

The series premiere will follow the team as they are contacted by a mother of Tayvela -- a 15-year-old runaway who has been missing for nine months -- and learn that she is being held by a gang against her will.

Runaway Squad is being produced by ITV Studios.
