UPI News Service, 04/27/2010

A 58-year-old Massachusetts man returning to school says he is fulfilling a lifelong dream by pitching for the Springfield College junior varsity baseball team.

Larry Hasenfus, 58, who has three children older than all of his teammates, said he decided to try out for the baseball team 40 years after playing in high school because he did not have the grades for sports during his first tenure in college, WWLP-TV, Springfield, Mass., reported Tuesday.

"It was always a dream for me to play college sports," Hasenfus said.

Teammates and head coach Mark Simeone said Hasenfus won them over with his skills on the mound.

"I'm just trying to do the best I can every day," Hasenfus said. "Maybe that's inspiration to some, I hope so."
