Robert Wilson of Oklahoma City said he found the 1952 Porsche Cabriolet convertible in 1987 while he was looking through a scrap yard for a Volvo part, and he convinced the owner to sell and deliver the car for $800.
Wilson said he spent 17 years rebuilding and restoring the vehicle with the help of experts.
Porsche Cars North America announced Wilson's vehicle was the winner of its search for the oldest Porsche sold in the United States. The search was part of Porsche's 60th anniversary festivities.
