$190 million winner keeps to herself

UPI News Service, 01/14/2011

An Idaho woman who won $190 million, half the $380 million Mega Millions jackpot, chose to avoid the spotlight, passing on the customary news conference.

Mega Millions officials said Holly Lahti asked for her northern Idaho hometown not to be identified and passed on the chance to speak at a news conference when she claimed her winning ticket Tuesday, ABC News reported Thursday.

Friends of Lahti said she is about 30 years old and quit her bank teller job after winning her half of the jackpot.

Lahti's shyness upon winning the money stands in contrast to the public announcement made by Jim McCullar, 68, of Ephrata, Wash., who came forward last week with the ticket winning the other half of the jackpot. He spoke to a news conference for 30 minutes about his win.

The Mega Millions drawing reached $380 million after 15 consecutive drawings failed to yield a winner.
