Charles Leiber of Lexington, Mass., earned bragging rights for the biggest orange gourd in southern New England this weekend with a 1,610-pound pumpkin.

Leiber's giant pumpkin topped all others at the Southern New England Giant Pumpkin Growers Pumpkin Championship Saturday at Frerich's Farm in Warren, the Providence Journal reported.
It also beat the previous mark of 1,596 pounds.
Second place went to the 1,520-pound pumpkin grown by Steve Sperry of Johnston and third was Armand Michaud of Ipswich, Mass., with a 1,493-pounder.
While huge by New England standards, Leiber's pumpkin is still a couple of hundred pounds shy of the world record. That honor goes to a 1,810.5 pound pumpkin Chris Stevens of New Richmond, Wis., who won a weekend contest in Stillwater, Minn.
