Kaitlyn Bristowe and her fiance Shawn Booth have revealed the Season 11 The Bachelorette star is freezing her eggs.

Booth confirmed the news via Instagram with a post on Friday, March 17.

"Always impressed by her strength & courage, but even more so after these past few weeks!" Booth, 29, captioned a photo of himself giving a thumbs up as Bristowe, 31, appears to be sleeping with her head in his lap. "Very proud of her for taking control of our future and continuing to empower others! #ovaeggfreezing (and it doesn't hurt when you have the best nurse & friend out there @whitb624!!)."

Bristowe previously mentioned her plans to freeze her eggs during a Twitter exchange with a fan on March 10.

"I'm freezing my eggs... I'm taking control of my future!" Bristowe tweeted, before joking that she'd give the eggs to her fertility nurse and good friend Whitney Bischoff. "As a woman there's always pressure to have babies, and this puts my mind at ease for when IM ready."

Bristowe and Bischoff both competed on Season 19 of The Bachelor starring Chris Soules, who ultimately proposed to Bischoff during the March 2015 finale. (Bischoff and the Iowa farmer, however, split several months later in May of that year).

In a similar boat is Bachelor in Paradise star Carly Waddell, who also vied for Soules' affection on The Bachelor. Waddell recently celebrated her one-year anniversary with fiance Evan Bass by undergoing the egg-freezing procedure.

"I'm still so happy with my decision!" Waddell, 31, wrote on Instagram on March 13. "[Evan] and I are SO excited to have kids together, but I also have the best backup plan just in case I need a little help!"

An egg-freezing cycle takes 4-6 weeks to complete, typically costs $10,000, and is intended for women who want or need to delay childbearing in order to pursue career or other personal goals. The process includes self-administered hormone injections and, often times, birth control pills, according to USC Fertility.

Once a woman's eggs have adequately matured, they are removed with a needle while the patient is under intravenous sedation. The eggs are immediately frozen and eventually thawed and injected with sperm to achieve fertilization when the woman is ready to conceive. The eggs will, at that point, be transferred to the uterus as embryos.

Bristowe and Booth got engaged at the conclusion of her The Bachelorette season, which aired in July 2015. During a January appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, Bristowe made a bet with host Jimmy Kimmel that she'd get married to the love of her life within one year from that date.
