Flip or Flop star Tarek El Moussa has filed for divorce from his wife Christina El Moussa.

Nearly a month after the couple announced their split following seven years of marriage and successful joint HGTV projects, Tarek's lawyer told People that his client filed papers in court to legally separate from his wife.

Tarek cited irreconcilable differences as the reason for ending his marriage, according to divorce documents obtained by TMZ. He's asking for joint custody of their two children -- Taylor, 6, and Brayden, 1 -- as well as spousal support.

But in an interesting turn of events, Tarek is reportedly requesting the judge block any attempt from Christina to collect spousal support from him.

"It's civilized, or as best it can be under the circumstances," a source told the website. "They have to make it work if they want to continue monetizing what they do."

Christina and Tarek announced their separation on December 12 through a joint media statement in which they cited "challenges" and an "unfortunate misunderstanding" from more than six months ago as the reasons behind their split.

Sources say infidelity played no role in the demise of their marriage.

The couple later revealed they've been living apart for months and already dating other people. Christina is reportedly romantically involved with a contractor, Gary Anderson, who has worked for her in the past.

The seventh season of the couple's HGTV reality series, Flip or Flop, debuted on December 1. Later that month, a source told E! News additional episodes of Flip or Flop will be filmed in 2017 in order to fulfill contractual obligations, however, "the show will end after that."

Tarek and Christina, who wed in May 2009, are reportedly determined to continue the show together by handling the divorce process "civilly and cooperatively."

"We admire and appreciate Tarek and Christina's great work on Flip or Flop," HGTV said in a statement last month.

"When it comes to matters related to their own family, we respect their privacy and honor any decision that works best for them and their children. HGTV is currently airing episodes of Flip or Flop and the series will continue production as scheduled."
