JoJo Fletcher apparently didn't have easy choices to make at the end of her journey on The Bachelorette.

"I fell for more than one guy," Fletcher, 25, told People. "And that was surprising!"

But having such strong feelings for more than one person can make things really complicated.

"It's very painful," the Season 12 Bachelorette added.

As a result, Fletcher's experience on the show was filled with highs and lows as well as romantic moments and crushing blows.

"If I only had feelings for one guy, it would have been smooth sailing. But each relationship was so important to me," said the Dallas real estate developer. "When you get to the end, it can get really confusing."

Fletcher also had to deal with situations she never saw coming, forcing her to trust her gut above all else.

"There were twists and turns and things I wasn't expecting. But I'm stronger. I've grown even more. And I'm happy," the reality TV star told People.

Fletcher became the Bachelorette after Season 20's The Bachelor star Ben Higgins dumped her in favor of his current fiancee Lauren Bushnell. Unfortunately for Fletcher, Higgins confessed his love to her before blindsiding her with rejection at the Final Rose Ceremony in Jamaica.

"I don't think I'll ever forget the moment we broke up. Ben was one of the greatest loves of my life," Fletcher admitted. "But I learned from the experience, and seeing Ben's relationship with Lauren helped me accept what it is and be happy with the outcome."

Now that Fletcher has spent time in Higgins' shoes, she confessed it's also easier to comprehend how someone could love two people at once.

"Oh, absolutely! I think that is the most surprising thing for me. Because last season, I thought I understood. I thought that I could be an outsider looking in and really understand what he was going through," Fletcher told reporters in an interview last week.

"But being in it, it makes so much more sense to me now. The whole thing about Ben saying, 'I love you,' and how he had cared for two people at once, I was like, 'How is that possible?' I definitely can see how that is possible now."

The Bachelorette returned to ABC on May 23 and will continue airing on Monday nights this season.
