Big Brother's Season 17 houseguests evicted John McGuire during Thursday night's live eviction episode on CBS.

John was evicted from the Big Brother house by a unanimous vote instead of fellow nominee Steve Moses, his closest ally left in the house.

However, John later received the opportunity to compete against Shelli Poole, Jackie Ibarra and Becky Burgess for a spot back in the house and the ability to continue competing for the $500,000 grand prize.

Prior to the live eviction, Vanessa Rousso was clearly mad at Steve for orchestrating a plan to get her out the week before, so John thought maybe he had a "two percent chance" to stick around in the house.

Liz Nolan apologized to Vanessa for not being upfront with her about the previous backdoor plan. Since it wasn't an option to get rid of Vanessa this week, Liz thought it was important to smooth things over with Vanessa.

Austin Matelson pointed out that John telling Vanessa about the backdoor plan wasn't smart because it didn't do anything to help his game. In fact, it made Austin more eager to target John. Liz then called John out for telling Vanessa things he shouldn't have, but John became frustrated because he was the one sitting on the chopping block next to his best buddy Steve.

John told Liz that Austin made it obvious he was more loyal to James Huling and Meg Maley. Liz realized it was probably a little foolish to make John feel even worse about things, so she put on a good face and walked away.

Afterward, John tried to make Vanessa trust him more than Steve by talking to her constantly and being open with her about things. John knew Vanessa's vote was pretty much a swing vote, so he tried to secure it. But Vanessa had no intention to turn on Austin and the twins.

She told the cameras that if John could also convince the twins to keep him safe, he'd be all set. Vanessa definitely wanted Steve gone, but the twins didn't trust John.

Vanessa argued Steve could win the game because he's such a huge fan and likeable guy. She also said if Jackie potentially returned to the house, she'd immediately go after Steve.

Once it became time to vote, everyone voted to oust John from the Big Brother game.

In his post-eviction interview, John told Big Brother host Julie Chen that he saw his elimination coming and Austin and the twins are amazing game players. John said he got labeled a challenge threat but wasn't actually winning challenges.

At the same time, he didn't work hard enough to make new alliances stick. John explained if he stayed in the game, he'd try to work with Vanessa and go after Meg or James because they needed to be split up.

The jurors then joined Big Brother's houseguests and competed in the Head of Household competition called "Dizzyland." Julie announced that the last juror holding on to his or her spinning rope would be allowed to re-enter the house. The last houseguest standing would become the new HoH. However, if a juror claimed first place, he or she would play in the game again as the new HoH.
