Based on a hit format in the U.K., First Dates will feature an authentic, observational look into a variety of real first dates happening over one night in the same restaurant. The couples will all be looking for love, to feel an initial spark and to hopefully secure a second date.

According to the network, the series will be relatable to viewers and play out like a romantic comedy. Fans will determine for themselves whether these pairs have chemistry and real potential.

NBC has ordered eight hour-long episodes of First Dates, which will begin production in July in Chicago.

First Dates is being produced by Shed Media and executive produced by DeGeneres, Pam Healey, John Hesling, Jeff Kleeman, Tim Carter, and Anthony Dominici.
