Produced by Paramount Television Production and executive produced by Marc Platt, Fox has announced it has cast lead characters Sandy and Rizzo for Grease: Live, the network's live musical event set to air Sunday, January 31, 2016 from 7-10PM ET/PT.

Dancing with the Stars judge Julianne Hough will be taking on the infamous role of Sandy, the sweet girl-next-door character who hopelessly falls for male lead Danny Zuko, in tentatively-titled Grease: Live.

"Grease is one of the movies that made me want to be an entertainer, and I have literally been waiting my whole life to play Sandy," Hough said in a statement. "My siblings and I watched it and played it out over and over when we were kids. This is my dream role and performing it live on television will be one of the most thrilling opportunities I've had in my career so far."

Hudgens, who will be making her Broadway debut this year in the stage musical Gigi, will star as Grease's bad-girl Rizzo, who has a pregnancy scare and can't help but be jealous of Sandy's naivety and innocence.

"Being Rizzo is something I've never imagined, and I love that because it will be a new challenge," added Hudgens. "She is such an iconic character that continues to transcend generations. I cannot wait to bring her to life on live television. I'm going to be a Pink Lady!"

Grease: Live is based on the original musical Grease by Jim Jacobs and Warren Casey as well as Paramount Pictures' 1978 film adaptation.

"Grease is one of the most treasured and favored pop culture phenomenons of our time," Platt said in a statement. "It's fun, it's endearing and we are so excited to reimagine this iconic story with a shared entertainment event suited for today's audience."

Hough is a two-time professional champion of Dancing with the Stars. She also served as a first-time regular judge on the show's panel for its most recent nineteenth season. Hough had a successful self-titled debut album and has also starred in several movies, including Safe Haven, Paradise, Rock of Ages, Footloose and Burlesque.
