Nick Cannon and Mariah Carey's marriage is reportedly over because Cannon is the one who wants it to be.

The America's Got Talent host left Carey after six years of marriage because, according to sources close to the couple, he is extremely concerned about her emotional state and the effects it might have on their two children, TMZ reported.

Cannon reportedly worries Carey's environment is harmful to their three-year-old twins Monroe and Moroccan, who were born in April 2011, as the kids have already been showing signs of emotional distress due to living with their mother.

The sources explained that Cannon wants to take his children out of the "chaos" of Carey's home and safely surround them with positive influences.

Carey's mental health also reportedly concerns the deejay and host because he believes the people in the diva's life only care about their paychecks and how they can benefit from having a relationship with her.

As the divorce plays out, Cannon will be taking on a "passive" role, according to TMZ, because he's hoping for an amicable, easy split.

Cannon confirmed his marriage is in trouble late last week during an interview with The Insider. He revealed he's been living in a separate house from Carey for several months.

Cannon, 33, and the singer, 44, wed in April 2008. They've had a pattern of renewing their vows every year as a way to celebrate their anniversary.
