American Idol host Ryan Seacrest admits he needs to slow down and maybe even take a day off now that he's turning 40.

Seacrest's December birthday "is a turning point number where you go, 'Wait, you've got to grow up a little bit.' I'm actually embracing it!" he told People.

Seacrest is known for juggling numerous career ventures. In addition to his Idol gig, he hosts a syndicated daily radio show, reports for E! News, runs a production company, and recently started his own line of men's clothing and accessories for Macy's. And those are just his regular positions.

Explaining that he needs to "find balance" in his life, Seacrest told the magazine, "Until recently, I felt I shouldn't ever have a day off and felt guilty going on vacation. That was pressure I put on myself. I've gotten a little more relaxed as I approach 40."

The entertainment mogul's new perspective apparently thrills his mother Connie Seacrest, who is an Atlanta homemaker and helps out with the Ryan Seacrest Foundation.

"I'm happy he's come to that point," Connie noted. "With this milestone birthday, I think he's saying, 'Is that all there is? I need to fulfill myself on a personal level.'"

Seacrest admitted he'd like to get married and may even start a family.

"I look at what my mom and dad have had for 40-plus years -- a fantastic relationship and great marriage," said Seacrest, who is currently dating a 23-year-old model named Shayna Taylor after splitting from longtime girlfriend Julianne Hough in 2013.

"Someday I'd like that. They're my role models."
