The identities of the sixteen castaways participating in "Survivor: Pearl Islands" were unveiled today on CBS News’ "The Early Show." The seventh installment of the hit series will premiere Thursday, Sept. 18 (8:00-9:30 PM, ET/PT) with a special 90-minute episode.

"Survivor: Pearl Islands," hosted by Jeff Probst, takes place in the Pearl Islands off the coast of Panama, where 16 Americans will be stranded in the high seas of the Pacific Ocean to vie for the title of Ultimate Survivor and win $1 million. In previous installments of "Survivor," the castaways had been giving the opportunity to bring a change of clothing, a bathing suit and one luxury item. This time around, unbeknownst to them, the castaways will be marooned with only the clothes on their backs as they attempt to compete and survive Panama’s tumultuous rainy season!

These eight men and eight women, a diverse group of individuals with varying backgrounds and geographic origins, will be split into these two teams, each of which must work to find food, water and shelter in order to exist. The series chronicles the relationships and conflicts that develop as strangers test their limits in various challenging situations that force them to rely on one another to survive, while remaining aware that they must eliminate one another to become the Ultimate Survivor. At the conclusion of each episode, the participants form a tribal council and conduct a secret-ballot vote to expel one of their colleagues from the tribe. Once the competition is narrowed to two finalists, the ultimate $1 million winner will be selected by a panel of the seven previously expelled participants.

In its sixth edition, "Survivor: The Amazon" ranked No. 8 among all network programs with an average of 19.97 million viewers.
