The 39-year-old country star admitted he and the 46-year-old singer are very "different" while discussing his relationship with Stefani on Thursday's episode of the "Today" show.

"We could not be, on paper, any more different," Shelton confessed.

"I mean, I'm a country singer and she's a ska, rock, pop, whatever it is. It's just an odd idea, but man, it's a lot of fun. I've gotta be honest about that."

Shelton and Stefani confirmed their relationship in November and debuted their first duet, "Go Ahead and Break My Heart," on "The Voice" this month.

The couple will perform the song again at the Billboard Music Awards on May 22.

"The reaction to [the duet] has been crazy," the country star said. "I actually wrote that song, started it, just to try to impress her, to be honest with you. I sent it to her half done ... and she wrote the next verse and sent it back to me."

Shelton and Stefani met on "The Voice" in 2014 but were initially just friendly, according to Shelton's upcoming interview on CMT Hot 20 Countdown.

The pair developed their unlikely romance after splitting from their respective spouses, Miranda Lambert and Gavin Rossdale, in 2015.

"It's not something anybody could've seen coming besides God I guess, because it doesn't look like it would make sense," Shelton said. "All I can tell you is it does. It makes the most perfect sense for us and where we're at in our lives."

"I tell people all the time, 'Gwen saved my life last year.' She did. I think she would probably tell you something similar about me," he added. "All the sudden, this thing just happened because of certain things that we were going through. It's saved my life, period."

Shelton last released "Bringing Back the Sunshine" in 2014 and will include "Go Ahead and Break My Heart" on "If I'm Honest," out May 20. Stefani released her third solo album, "This is What the Truth Feels Like," in March.
