Five members of the Amarillo musical production of "Texas" were killed in a car accident late Monday, the Texas Department of Public Safety said.
The cast members were returning to Amarillo from an annual end-of-summer cast party in Dumas when their vehicle turned in front of an oncoming tractor-trailer on U.S. Highway 287 north of Amarillo.
DPS officials said they suspect alcohol may have played a role in the incident.
Killed were Clinton Diaz of Amarillo; Andrew Duncan of Wichita Falls, Kan.; Amanda Starz of Timonium, Md.; Julian Arredondo of Haltom, Texas; and Eric Harrison of Fort Worth, Texas. Another passenger, Timothy Johnson of Portland, Ore., was critically injured. The truck driver, Theron Arthur McSay of Fort Collins, Colo., was also hurt but his injuries are not life-threatening, the Amarillo (Texas) Globe News said Tuesday.
The show's producer said it was unclear whether the remaining week of shows in the 48th season of "Texas" would be canceled.
