Kathy Bates slams NBC for treatment of 'Harry's Law'

UPI News Service, 08/03/2013

Kathy Bates said NBC's treatment of her canceled show, "Harry's Law," and its viewers was disrespectful.

During Friday's Television Critics Association press tour for her latest gig, on FX's "American Horror Story," Bates said NBC "treated us like [expletive]."

"They kicked us to the curb. They disrespected us. They disrespected our 11 million viewers every week. And I think they're getting what they deserve," she said, possibly referring to NBC's ratings slip since the end of "Harry's Law."

The legal drama had solid but unremarkable ratings throughout its two seasons, averaging 8.9 million total viewers each week during its final season, The Hollywood Reporter said.

Bates said she was initially turned off of working in television after leaving NBC, but became excited about "American Horror Story" after meeting with writer Ryan Murphy.

"I would like to add something on the positive note," she said. "I thought after all of that, I wouldn't [go back to TV]. But I met with Ryan [Murphy], and I must say that when he pitched this show to me, this little kid in me started running around jumping."
