Melissa McCarthy addresses Rex Reed's "tractor-sized" comment
UPI News Service, 06/14/2013
Melissa McCarthy says she "felt really bad" for Rex Reed, the film critic who called her tractor-sized and obnoxious in a February movie review.
McCarthy long kept quiet regarding Reed's comments about her in a review of her film "Identity Thief," but she told The New York Times this week her initial reaction to the personal attack was: "Really? Why would someone OK that?"
"I felt really bad for someone who is swimming in so much hate. I just thought, that's someone who's in a really bad spot, and I am in such a happy spot. I laugh my head off every day with my husband and my kids who are mooning me and singing me songs," said the 42-year-old married mother of 6- and 3-year-old daughters.
She did, however, admit if the incident happened when she was 20, "it may have crushed me," but emphasized she is now mature enough to brush off such a barb.
McCarthy is the star of TV's "Mike & Molly." She will soon be seen on the big screen in "The Heat," opposite Sandra Bullock.
