Survey: Couples' plans to watch shows together fail due to impatience

The survey, conducted by Harris Interactive on behalf of Netflix2, found more than 28 million U.S. adults confessed they had already "cheated" by watching a program via streaming on their own before their partner did, and 10 percent said their partner was too tempted to see the next episode of a program to wait for them.

Sixty-six percent said they watched a TV show alone on the main television, 21 percent would watch in bed while a partner slept and 5 percent watched in the bathroom.

To avoid tension with a partner, 41 percent said they would not spoil scenes, 14 percent would feel so guilty about jumping the gun they would confess and 12 percent said they would re-watch and "fake it" with emotion.

Seventy-seven percent of of men ages 18-34 in a relationship said they would stream a TV program before a significant other did, while 57 percent of women ages 18-34 would.

The survey of 2,068 U.S. adults -- of whom 1,358 were married, living with a partner or dating -- was conducted April 24-26. No margin of error was provided.
