'Dancing with the Stars' to air only one night a week
UPI News Service, 05/14/2013
"Dancing with the Stars" will air only Monday nights next season, ABC Entertainment Group President Paul Lee said in a teleconference with reporters.
The celebrity dance competition series, which usually offers 2-hour episodes on Mondays and 1-hour results shows Tuesdays, will air as one, single 2-hour block a week, starting in Season 17.
Contestant eliminations will take place at the end of the installments, Lee said Tuesday, adding it is still unclear whether there will be fewer contestants competing on the reality series. Also unknown at this point is whether television viewers will still have the opportunity to vote for their favorite candidates to win mirror ball glory.
"We want to focus ['DWTS'] in by taking the results show and building it into the 2-hour block on Mondays to really drive viewership. We had very, very strong development this year so this allowed us to put 'S.H.I.E.L.D.' on Tuesdays, which we think is a perfect place for that show," Lee said.
The mystery dramedy series "Castle" will remain in its Monday 10 p.m. time slot.
