UPI News Service, 03/13/2013

Motorists who filled up at three Ohio gas stations said their cars were damaged when diesel fuel came from the pump instead of 87 octane regular gasoline.

The drivers said thousands of dollars of damage was done to their cars when they filled up at the Sunoco station in Medina and at Giant Eagle GetGo stations in Fairlawn and Massillon, WKYC-TV, Cleveland, reported Wednesday,

Terry Rollins, whose Toyota Prius was one of the affected cars, said a manager at the Sunoco station blamed a fuel supplier for the mix-up. However, she said the manager told her the station would not be paying for her repairs.

A statement from Giant Eagle apologized for the incident and said it resulted from Bulk Terminal Storage delivering a shipment of 87 octane that had been contaminated with diesel. The company asked drivers whose cars were damaged by the contaminated gas Tuesday to submit claims for reimbursement.

WKYC-TV said Sunoco did not respond to a request for comment.
