The broadcast journalist is "resting comfortably and is getting stronger," ABC News said.
However, it was unclear when she would be well enough to go back to work on her daily ABC daytime chat show "The View."
Walters, 83, was hospitalized in Washington more than a week ago after tripping on a stair at the British ambassador's residence and cutting her head.
The injury prevented her from covering the presidential inauguration festivities as planned for ABC News.
While she was hospitalized, she had a high fever that turned out to be connected to the chicken pox. She was transferred to a New York hospital where she was treated for the illness, but was recovering at home by Tuesday.
