North Miami Beach Police said officers responded to a call around 2 a.m. Monday about a pair of monkeys attacking the young girl and they arrived to find she had been scratched on the face while getting into a car with her mother, WTVJ-TV, Miami, reported Monday.

Fire rescue workers treated the girl at the scene and she did not require hospitalization, police said.

One of the lemurs was captured after it jumped on top of a police car and the other was captured by its owner, Julia Hincapie.

Hincapie, who has a permit to keep the lemurs, said they escaped from their cage when someone broke into the yard.

"They were just, they were scared, that's it, they were running around, everyone was chasing them, a lot of lights, they were scared," Hincapie said.

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission is investigating the incident.
