Christopher Plummer wins Best Supporting Actor Oscar at age 82

UPI News Service, 02/26/2012

Christopher Plummer Sunday night became the oldest person to ever win an Oscar at age 82.

The Canadian actor earned the Best Supporting Actor prize for his portrayal of a senior citizen who finally embraces his homosexuality after the death of his wife in "Beginners."

"You're only two years older than me, darling. Where have you been all my life?" Plummer said, addressing his Oscar statuette on stage at the Los Angeles ceremony.

"I have a confession to make. When I first emerged from my mother's womb, I was already rehearsing my Academy Award thank-you speech, but it was so long ago, mercifully, for you, I've forgotten it."

Plummer's other film credits include "The Sound of Music," "The Insider," "The Last Station" and "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo."
