Elton John has been booked to perform at the American Museum of Natural History's 2010 Museum Gala in New York, organizers said.

The event is to take place Nov. 18.

"A much-anticipated highlight of the fall season, the Museum Gala is the American Museum of Natural History's largest annual benefit," the museum said in a news release Wednesday.

"More than 500 guests are expected to attend this year's dazzling ball. Following cocktails in the Roosevelt Rotunda, guests will enjoy a gourmet dinner and a performance by Sir Elton John in the Milstein Hall of Ocean Life. The event features host Tom Brokaw and an auction of extraordinary prizes, overseen by auctioneer Jamie Niven of Sotheby's."

Proceeds are intended to help support the museum's educational and scientific programming.
