UPI News Service, 07/12/2008

A group of Swedish musicians has begun an attempt to create the longest jam session in the history of the world, a music official says.

Stockholm Jazz Festival Director Bobo Stensson said Saturday more than 100 musicians had gathered at the Clarion Hotel in Stockholm to wail on their instruments and create a record-setting groove, The Local reported.

Stensson said while participants were hopeful some big names from the music world would show up, it was open to all musicians.

"Yes, all you have to do is to take your little saxophone to the hotel and sign up," he said. "We hope that some of the big international stars will also want to take part when they come to Stockholm at the beginning of next week."

The Local said the only rules for the event, which officially began Friday, were that participants continue playing to ensure the jam session never falls silent during its scheduled five-day run.
