Sunday's "American Idols Live" benefit for Hurricane Katrina will mark the return of fan favorite Bo Bice, who underwent surgery last month in Nevada.

Bice, 29, the runner-up on the Fox TV talent competition last season, underwent emergency surgery mid-tour for an intestinal blockage.

Bice told People magazine he wrote a special song for the benefit concert in Syracuse, N.Y., called "We Can't Change This World."

"I'm talking about we can't change this world if we can't change our minds," he explained. "The first step is realizing there is a problem."

The Alabama native expressed frustration that his illness has kept from rushing to help in the areas devastated by the storm.

"I was put on this Earth to do more than sing songs," he said. "I'm not afraid to get my hands dirty. The first chance I get I'm going down there."

In the meantime, he said, he would work as "a mouthpiece" to motivate people to do whatever they can to help.
