Corey Clark, the former "American Idol" contestant who claimed an affair with Paula Abdul has been charged with assaulting his ex-girlfriend in a hotel room.

The Sacramento Bee reports that police were called to Clark's hotel in Sacramento after other guests reported hearing a fight. Clark and his ex-girlfriend both had scratched arms, and she was bruised as well.

Clark was given a summons for a misdemeanor domestic assault charge and released.

"It sounds like a verbal dispute that just got out of hand," Sgt. Justin Risley told the Bee.

Clark got the boot from "American Idol" two years ago for failing to tell producers that he had been arrested in Kansas for assaulting his sister and fighting with police. He later claimed an affair with Abdul, one of the judges on the program, which she denies.
