Elvis Presley soared to the top of the Britain's singles chart with a re-release of "Jailhouse Rock," the Daily Mirror reported Monday.

Elvis' song was certified No. 1 Sunday on the 70th anniversary of his birth. "Jailhouse Rock" first topped the British and U.S. charts in 1958. The re-release is Elvis's 19th No. 1 hit in Britain, more than 27 years after his death.

The song is the 999th No. 1 since the British chart started in 1952. It is part of a campaign by SonyBMG to grab the 1,000th spot by re-releasing Presley's "One Night" this week and "Fool Such As I" the following week.
